GUINNESS WORLD RECORD HOLDER

The New Puppy Heel, Sit, Stay... Night's Beginning The Four C-Crets

Owning Labrador Retrievers since the age of 9 has given me a rare opportunity. I learned to listen to my dogs. My dogs have taught me more than I have taught them and to think any different would be an error on my part.

Lynne Frady with black lab.
I have had the pleasure of training dogs since 1983 and established Super Dog Obedience and Gun Dog Training in 1995. I work with all breeds of dogs and they have all taught me a tremendous amount of priceless knowledge that I gladly share with others.

Super Dog's mission is to help dogs and owners better understand each other. It seems that people automatically think dogs are born knowing what to do, what is expected of them and how to do it all within strict guidelines and with minimal training. This can not be further from the truth.

All dogs have a purpose or a job; they are bred to hunt, herd, pull, and are companion dogs, etc. With this in mind we must first understand that each of these dogs must be trained to do their job. Their abilities have to be honed for them to be able to perform at the level expected. We all have the ability to swim but that does not mean that we are all Olympic swimmers.

This page is designed to help you, the owner/handler. It will be mostly from a dog's point of view. The gal runnin the show is Labrador Retriever SHR Fowlcreeks TF Blace s Night JH CD (aka) Nighty. There will aslo be articles from her "brother" Camp Creek Gun's Smoke our German Short-Haired Pointer. You will also get to meet many of their friends. Who better to tell you how to train your dog and give you advice than a dog?

This page will be full of articles, product reviews and plenty of humor. We hope you will enjoy what you read and come back on a regular basis to learn more. We also want you to understand that when you train a dog it has to be done with plenty of love, patience, firmness and a funny bone the size of Texas. We also want to help you learn to read your dog; when you accomplish that you can work through most any problems you are having. Also remember we are only a click away if you have questions--we are hear to help.

So put your paw on the mouse and keep your nose in the wind!

GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS

It has been a busy year but a very successful one.  This summer we had a rare opportunity, my daughter Leah, our lab Nighty and myself were asked if we would be interested in attempting to break a Guinness World
Record.

My daughter and I have taught archery at Camp Rockmont, a private Christian Camp for boys, for the past 4 summers.  Two of the counselors there asked if we would like to attempt the world record for a dog running
through the longest human tunnel.  Nighty has been going to camp since she was 7 1/2 weeks old and the her this is her second home.  It was Camp Rockmont's 50th anniversary and the counselors thought it would be a great idea to do something special for the camp.  Of course we were more than happy to try to help give something back to Rockmont.

The challenge was to teach Nighty to go between the legs of the boys standing belly to back, the only problem was that we have taught Nighty since she was a puppy to never go between people's legs, so the first week was a little trying, we started with two boys and finally she decided it was ok and that she wouldn't get in trouble for it. The record tunnel consisted of 222 people from a kennel club in England and a yellow lab.

So two boys down 221 to go.  We worked very hard and the boys were all troopers to stand in the hot sun with there legs apart wide enough for Nighty to go through, we started working with just the archery class and then as Nighty grew more confident we recruited the tennis class, sports and nature class as well.  We had to do several trial runs, it was tuff to say the least, if there was a gap anywhere Nighty would come out of the tunnel for the quickest way to the end.  Oh, her reward for coming to the end of the tunnel was a tennis ball thrown down the field for her to retrieve and man does she ever love a tennis ball. We knew that we not only wanted to break the current record we wanted to blow it out of the water, my goal was 250 but Nighty had her sights  slightly higher.

On July 27 we lined the boys up with the help of all the counselors, shortest boys to the tallest, Nighty had to crouch in the beginning of the tunnel due to the younger boys but by the time she was 1/3 through the tunnel she could stand up and really turn on the after burners.  Her reward on the day of the attempt was her tennis ball of course but we lined up on the field where the lake was, so when she came out of the tunnel she would dive into the lake after her ball.  For her it doesn't get any better than that.

We received official word from Guinness that we had broken the record, I guess you want to know by how many people we broke it.  The record again was 222--we broke it with.....

382!

If you would like you can go to www.rockmont.com , when the site comes up at the top you will see at the top under the banner "the roundhouse" click on that and it will give you the information and you can view some
of the pictures that were taken. Nighty gave it her all for her second home and for all the directors, counselors and the boys that she loves so much.

Jim and I are very lucky to be a part of the hunting and outdoor industry.  We always tell the children that we teach to "chase their dreams", thanks to all of you we have been able to catch several of ours and the pursuit will continue.  Who would have ever thought we would be able to help others achieve their dreams as well.  With hard work and determination anything is possible. Thank you for letting us share the news with all of you!
