GARY
CARVER
Gary
Carver of Old Fort, North Carolina inherited
his love of hunting and all things outdoors from his Grandfather
who was a well known sportsman in the Old Fort/Mt. Mitchell
area. Gary harvested his first buck, a 9 pt. that
is still displayed with much pride, in 1974 on public land.
Since then he has harvested many animals including a triple
bearded Eastern Tom in 2004. His most recent harvest
was a Red Stag which scored Gold Medal in the Record of
Exotics.
Gary discovered his love of archery very early and spent
many hours in the local woods with his bow. An accident
in the early 90’s put an end to his archery career……or so
he thought.
Through a friend, Gary learned of the disabled crossbow
permit that would permit him to hunt in North Carolina with
a crossbow and thus allow him to enter the deer woods a
little earlier.
Gary
is an active member of the First Light Chapter of the National
Wild Turkey Federation serving as a Board Member and also
on the Committee to organize the annual JAKES Day, held
each year in Marion, North Carolina.

Gary and his wife Carol have two
sons, Benjamin and Douglas, and wife Tanya,
and one granddaughter, Makayla. They also share their
space with two German Short-hairs –
Katie and G.J.
CAROL
CARVER
Carol
Carver of Old Fort, North Carolina began
hunting only five short
years ago even though her father had always hunted and her
husband, Gary and their two sons had hunted anything with
a “Season.” Gary and Carol acquired a German Short-Hair
Pointer and Gary needed someone to bird hunt with him.
She very innocently agreed to hunt with him “some.”
“Some” soon became an obsession that has only grown with
time. From those first days trailing behind
the dogs and glorying in their every point to the 1st
First All Women’s All Weapons Hunt sponsored by Team Frady,
each foray into nature has only enriched the adventure.
After only a short time Carol decided to try her hand with
archery. With much help from Jim and Lynne Frady and
many hours of practice in the back yard, Carol harvested
her first Corsican Ram with a bow. The Ram scored
Gold Medal in the Record of Exotics. On the same trip
to Texas, she took a Scimitar Horned Oryx with a rifle that
scored eighth for the Year 2005.
Carol
is active in the First Light Chapter of the National Wild
Turkey Federation in McDowell County, North Carolina.
She serves as a Chapter Officer as well as a Board Member
and past coordinator for the Women in the Outdoors Program.
She also helps organize the Annual JAKES Day.

Carol, Gary, sons Benjamin and Douglas, and wife Tanya and
their granddaughter Makayla enjoy many outdoor adventures
and making the memories that last a lifetime. They
also share their lives with Katie and G.J., the German Short-Hairs
that started it all.
